A unique bike trail for a long weekend. Mountains, lakes and castles along the way

Do you like cycling trips, but the short ones around Warsaw or other famous cities are no longer satisfying for you? If you are looking for something interesting and unique, it is worth considering Velo Dunajec, which is 237 km along a picturesque river. You don't need a specialist bike or great skills to take on this challenge. All you need is a bit of positive attitude and determination. The route is more difficult than Velo Soła, which we mentioned recently - this one is considered to be of medium difficulty, because you have to be ready for more climbs.
The picturesque Velo Dunajec trailThe trail along the Dunajec can be found in Małopolska. It starts in Zakopane and ends at the mouth of the Dunajec to the Vistula in Wietrzychowice. It is worth remembering that it is not a loop. The start is planned at the train station. From there we go along the streets of Chramcówki to Samków and along Chycowy Potok we head towards Harenda.
Demanding sections on the Velo Dunajec route will be compensated by beautiful views. Cycling, we will pass through various terrains. Although the route is generally flat, you must also be prepared for steep climbs, especially in the area of Lake Czorsztyńskie , before Rożnów or near Dąbrowa.
The good news is that we will ride mainly on asphalt roads, which make up 80 percent of the route. The rest are gravel roads. During the trip, we will pass 7 mountain ranges, 3 lakes and 7 castles.
A family-friendly route full of attractionsThe aforementioned route is described as ideal for family trips . Experts predict that it can be done in 2 days, but if you want a more leisurely trip, you can spread the whole thing over the long weekend in June, for a total of 4 days. You will then have to drive about 59 km per day and will have plenty of time for sightseeing.
What is worth seeing along the way? You will pass many tourist towns, including Poronin, Biały Dunajec, Szaflary, Nowy Targ, Nidzica Zamek, Szczawnica, Krościenko nad Dunajcem, Tylmanowa, Nowy Sącz and Zagłobice. It is up to you where you want to spend the night and admire the attractions.
For example, in Łopuszna you can see an old church with over five hundred years of history or the Tetmajer manor from around 1790. Another hit is Tropsztyn Castle in the village of Wytrzyszczka in the Czchów commune, surrounded on three sides by the Dunajec River. In addition, you will have the opportunity to stop at Krupówki, the market square in Stary Sącz or climb the observation tower in Dąbrówka Szczepanowska.
