Legislative elections: Pedro Nuno says that Montenegro, Rocha and Ventura «are not trustworthy»

At a rally at the Pavilhão Centro de Portugal, which closed the afternoon of campaigning dedicated to the district of Coimbra, Pedro Nuno Santos began by congratulating the historic socialist Manuel Alegre, who turns 89 today, and ended by evoking Mário Soares, on the day that his daughter, Isabel Soares, made a speech.
The PS secretary general pointed his finger at the AD and the IL and said that the president of the IL, Rui Rocha, who said that there was an attempt at a pre-election agreement, which the leader of the AD “did not confirm”, “should already know that Luís Montenegro never assumes anything”.
“You remember the budget negotiations with André Ventura. He also did not acknowledge at the time the invitation or the proposal or the five meetings that the other one says took place. Luís Montenegro never acknowledges anything. He always hides everything from the Portuguese people,” he accused.
According to Pedro Nuno Santos, “the Portuguese right cannot be trusted”.
"Neither Luís Montenegro, nor Rui Rocha and much less André Ventura. They are not trustworthy," he accused.
The PS leader considered that the socialists are “good at managing crises” and also at “guaranteeing political stability”.
“Because we have the capacity for dialogue. Even when we do not have an absolute majority, we are able to dialogue, we are able to build lasting solutions. They have never managed to hold an entire legislature in a minority situation,” he countered.
According to Pedro Nuno Santos, the PS “succeeded and not just once”.
“Because we have the capacity to dialogue, to listen, to give in, to build. Because we want to guarantee stability,” he emphasized.
Regarding the alleged conversations between AD and IL, the PS leader says he has “some difficulty in understanding why” Rui Rocha wants “a government with Luís Montenegro so much after the things agreed” that he said about the Prime Minister and his family business.
«Rui Rocha even said that, in order to remain Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro had to comply with a three-point plan. First, he had to apologise to the Portuguese people for his imprudence and lack of transparency in handling this matter. He did not apologise. Second, he had to provide all the necessary clarifications about the company. It was a list of clarifications. He did not provide all of them. Thirdly, he had to completely disengage from this company, either directly or through his family. This did not happen. None of the three points that Rui Rocha had presented at the end of February are being met», he pointed out.
Throughout his speech, Pedro Nuno Santos once again listed the main measures of the PS electoral programme for these elections – as he has done in all his speeches – and has already referred to Luís Montenegro's executive as the “government of the past”.
“Let no one be mistaken, let no one disperse their vote”, he said, closing his speech, stating that this vote for the PS on Sunday allows “defeating the AD, preventing more Chega deputies and giving victory to a progressive government”.
