Murder suspect extradited to Portugal

In a statement, the Judicial Police reveals that the man is suspected of having killed a 20-year-old young man in the early hours of October 14, 2023, between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning, following an altercation between two rival groups.

According to the authority, the “victim ended up being hit in the neck with a broken glass bottle, which caused serious injuries and led to his death at the scene”.

After the events, both the suspect and the remaining members of his group began to flee, according to the note.

Following investigations by the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Directorate of the PJ, which led the investigation, the authorities identified the perpetrator, and evidence was collected that enabled the Department of Investigation and Criminal Prosecution to issue a European arrest warrant.

With the collaboration of the police and judicial authorities of the United Kingdom, within the framework of international cooperation, the PJ proceeded to locate, arrest and extradite the suspect to national territory.

The man, a foreign citizen, ended up being located and detained in the United Kingdom, the country to which he fled the day after the murder, says the PJ.

After being presented to the judicial authorities, he was given the coercive measure of preventive detention.
