The Chamber will vote on income tax exemption of up to R$5,000 next week, Motta announces.

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), announced this Tuesday (23) that the Lula government's (PT) proposal for Income Tax exemption for those earning up to R$5,000 will be voted on next Wednesday (1st).
Motta participated in a leaders' meeting attended by the bill's rapporteur, Congressman Arthur Lira (PP-AL). "We will move forward with balance and dialogue, working on important issues for Brazil," the Speaker of the House said on social media.
The government submitted Bill 1087/25 in March. The special committee approved the bill in July. The bill also provides for discounts for those earning up to R$7,350 per month. Lira stated that the bill is expected to spark a "very intense debate" in the plenary and warned that the government must be prepared.
"I've been saying this since day one, that there will be a very intense debate in the plenary regarding the form, values, and conditions of how to compensate for the IR exemption. The government must be prepared and the parties must be responsible with the votes. We have no vanity regarding the report," said the rapporteur during the BTG Pactual event, held this Monday (22).
At the same event, Motta emphasized that the Chamber needs to rid itself of "toxic agendas," referring to the advancement of the Immunity Amendment Proposal (PEC), and prioritize issues that "bring solutions instead of prolonging discussions," which, he said, erode national politics. The proposal must be approved by December 31st to come into effect in 2026.
