AI Gigafactory in Poland. We have submitted a key application

Poland, together with Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, together with a consortium of private entrepreneurs and research institutes, submitted an application to the European Commission for the construction of the Artificial Intelligence GigaFactory . This is the first stage of the process - a formal application to the initiative. Poland is the leader of the consortium.
AI Gigafactory in Poland: Construction of a Computing Center and Development of Polish Language ModelsThe key results of the project are to be: the creation of an advanced center with high computing power based in Poland and a significant increase in the adoption of AI technologies among companies, citizens and public and government administration in the region . An important element of the project is the development of Polish and Baltic language models (such as PLLuM and Bielik) and the integration of generative AI with administrative tools and processes.
- I am proud that Poland is co-creating a coalition of countries and entities for the development of AI . The creation of the Baltic AI GigaFactory will provide world-class computing infrastructure for researchers, entrepreneurs, industry and citizens from across the region. GigaFactory will work closely with national AI centers in Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Krakow, Poznan, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Warsaw, creating a connected and scalable innovation ecosystem. Our proposal is open to additional partners - both member states and commercial entities - said Dariusz Standerski, Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs, in a press release.
AI Gigafactory in Poland: This is to be an unprecedented projectThanks to the infrastructure provided, users will be able to strengthen European industry, develop innovative AI-based solutions and ensure the competitiveness and sovereignty of the countries of the region in the area of artificial intelligence. Baltic AI GigaFactory is designed to support the development, training and deployment of very large AI models and applications on an unprecedented scale. It will be adapted to both the needs related to training and inference of AI models.
Minister Standerski spoke about this project in an interview with WNP last week . According to what he said, the AI gigafactory project has many question marks. One of them is how the computing centers will be managed. - One of the options is a company managing the gigafactory. In this variant, the partners would have as much share in the computing power as they contributed. The second option is that the parties that contribute to the factory treat it as a pre-paid investment - explained Dariusz Standerski, Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs, to WNP .
According to the proposal , GigaFactory would be located in Poland, in a maximum of two locations, which would ensure high efficiency, sustainable development and low latency . Several locations are currently being considered. All should offer adequate bandwidth, access to 100% green energy and appropriate power and cooling systems.
The Baltic AI GigaFactory would be implemented in stages to enable the adaptation of the accompanying infrastructure and ensure long-term sustainable technological efficiency.
The proposed budget for the project is €3 billion . The majority of this amount will be allocated to the capital expenditures necessary to build and launch the AI GigaFactory. The proposal has a strong business component – 65% of the total investment will be covered by private capital. The investment will be based on capital contributions from project partners and venture capital funds and other financial investors.
