According to Spanish news agency Europa Press, the company said in September that content uploaded to YouTube would be used to "improve the experience for creators and viewers on YouTube and Google, including machine learning and AI applications."
Now, YouTube is using part of its catalog of 20 billion videos to train Google's AI tools, the news agency reveals, adding that it is not specified how many videos are being used or what selection criteria have been defined.
The models that the technology company is training with these videos are its advanced language model Google Gemini and the Veo 3 video generator, a generative AI tool that allows you to create videos from text, integrating music and dialogue into them.
In this sense, Google pointed out that it complies with "specific agreements" with creators and media companies, while also stating that it has always used YouTube content to improve its products.
This announcement comes after the company announced that Veo 3 will be integrated into YouTube's "shorts" tool this summer, meaning the technology will compete with the same content that is being used to enhance it, Europa Press reports.
