GNR arrests two suspects for home thefts

The GNR arrested two men on Wednesday suspected of burglaries in homes in the municipality of Albufeira, of which one was held in preventive detention and the other subject to periodic presentations, as coercive measures, the security force announced this Saturday.
The detainees are 24 and 18 years old and the youngest is the one who will remain in preventive detention by decision of the Portimão Judicial Court, which applied the coercive measures after both had been heard in the first judicial interrogation, indicated the GNR in a statement.
The GNR stated that the arrests were made as part of an investigation into thefts that occurred in homes in the municipality of Albufeira, in the district of Faro.
“Following the investigation, a police operation was carried out which led to the location of the individuals, in the vicinity of one of the homes targeted by the theft. The action culminated in the arrest of the suspects in flagrante delicto”, he indicated.
Two watches, two wallets, two handbags, a mixing table, a tablet, a laptop, a mobile phone, a perfume, 400 euros, clothing and footwear were seized from the detainees.
The security force appealed to citizens to “collaborate in preventing crime” and report “suspicious situations” to the authorities.
To prevent thefts in homes, the GNR recommends installing “an intrusion alarm system”, closing doors and windows whenever you leave the house and contacting a nearby neighbor who can check on the condition of the home during longer absences.
“Avoid leaving visible signs of absence, such as accumulated mail or permanently closed windows,” the GNR also advised, asking citizens to keep jewelry and valuables in a safe place and to have the telephone number of the nearest police station to hand.
