Jon Jones spoke again about the fight between him and Tom Aspinall , which was announced a few months ago by Dana White , but was never actually confirmed by the UFC .
This time, the heavyweight champion used social media to show, once again, that he has no interest in facing the interim champion to decide which of the two is the true owner of the category and he even made a confession.
“I spoke with the UFC a long time ago about my plans for the future. I haven’t trained much since my last fight. Honestly, I believe it has been in the UFC’s best interest to continue to present me as the UFC’s champion — and not Tom,” he wrote on his X profile (formerly Twitter).

Despite showing that he will not face Aspinall under any circumstances, Bones also leaves the question of retirement or even facing another opponent in the division in the air ; the champion even said that he would face Francis Ngannou, former heavyweight champion who is now in the PFL.
“This is a real superfight. A clash of champions. He had the UFC belt, I’ve been defending mine for over a decade. Two kings from different backgrounds. Not just a legend facing a fighter who’s on the rise at the moment,” he joked.
In any case, all this buzz surrounding the possible fight between him and the Brit is profitable for both him and the organization.
“I was just playing the company man and holding down the title. Honestly, it’s been incredibly lucrative. I’ve made more money with Tom as interim champion than I ever did with Tom himself,” he said.
While the Jon Jones-Tom Aspinall saga drags on, the top of the heavyweight division remains up in the air. There is a line of fighters wanting to challenge for the interim belt or the light heavyweight belt, since the official title depends, once again, on the return of the current champion.
Despite not having announced his retirement, Bones also denies that he is responsible for this deadlock that has been established at the top. While names in the top 6 ask for more fights, Aspinall remains without a next opponent — even though he has already shown a lack of patience with the champion.
“It’s a shame to see the rest of the division being so hurt, but that’s not about me. I don’t pull any strings,” he said.
I spoke to the UFC a long time ago about what my future plans were. I haven't really worked out since my last fight in New York City. Honestly, I believe it's been in the UFC's best interest to keep presenting me as the company's champion—not Tom.
