Pateira de Fermentelos is a «unique space for practicing sports»

Last Sunday, the National Canoeing Championship II brought together more than 2,000 people in Pateira de Fermentelos. Óis da Ribeira was the stage for “one of the largest national youth canoeing events”, organized by ARCOR – Óis da Ribeira Recreational and Cultural Association, in partnership with the Portuguese Canoeing Federation and the Canoeing Association of the Center.
Competing with 744 athletes representing 41 clubs from all over the country, the competition brought athletes, coaches, families and supporters to the region. Throughout the day, dozens of regattas were held in a wide range of categories and age groups, “in an atmosphere of great enthusiasm and fairplay”.
According to the Águeda City Council (CMA), the organization stood out “for its logistical efficiency and hospitality, with the involvement of dozens of volunteers, parents and local entities, who contributed to the success of the event”.
The event was supported by the CMA, the Union of Parishes of Travassô and Óis da Ribeira and local sponsors, which allowed ARCOR to “raise the standard of the competition”.
In addition to the sporting results, this championship «also had a strong impact on boosting the local economy and on the national projection of the parish of Óis da Ribeira, once again establishing it as a reference in the organization of canoeing events».
