UFC 316 , which took place on Saturday night (7), was devastating for Brazilians. All four representatives of the country suffered tough defeats in the octagon.

Opening the main card of the event, Vicente Luque faced Kevin Holland in the welterweight category; the Brazilian was ranked 14th, while the American, who had the crowd on his side, was trying to place himself among the top 15.

The fight, as expected, started off quite explosively, with Holland landing a greater volume of strikes. But in the first round, the two most impactful strikes came from the Brazilian. With a second round that started off evenly, Luque ended up being finished with his signature move: the arm triangle.

The first Brazilian to step into the octagon at the Prudential Center in New Jersey was Ariane da Silva , who faced Chinese Wang Cong in the women's flyweight category.

In general, the fight took place standing up and with a certain balance, but Cong made things very difficult for the Brazilian in the first round, landing 14 low kicks to her shin, compromising her right hand base — this ended up defining the fight.

In the second round, the Chinese fighter managed to knock down the Brazilian, who resisted and got up. Ariane even had a good moment when she hit Wang's head and controlled the pace of the fight, but it wasn't enough; while Silva felt the damage from the low kicks to his shin, Cong dominated the third round and won the fight by unanimous decision.

In the penultimate preliminary bout, Brendson Ribeiro faced the undefeated Azamat Murzakanov in the light heavyweight division; he accepted the fight with less than a week's notice, replacing fellow Brazilian Jhonny Walker.

With little time to prepare, the fighter from Pará even had a good start, but made the mistake of stopping in front of the Russian and ended up suffering a knockout in the first round.

Closing the preliminary fights, Bruno Silva faced Joshua Van in the flyweight category. The Brazilian started the fight better, moving well and controlling the space, but the fighter from Myanmar began to gain speed and applied a knockdown at the first opportunity.

Silva was knocked down, but managed to get up quickly and stay alive in the octagon. The Brazilian suffered two more knockdowns throughout the fight, before finally being knocked out halfway through the third round.
