A medium magnetic storm has begun on Earth. This was written in the Telegram channel by Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center
According to the expert, the solar wind began to influence the weather last night. After midnight, it changed the magnetic field and caused weak disturbances in the Earth's magnetosphere. By three o'clock in the morning, its influence increased and the magnetic storm reached class G2.
"According to the data of world forecasting centers, our planet will be in the flow of a faster and denser solar wind until Monday inclusive. In such a situation today, as well as in the next two days, the geomagnetic field will be mainly in a weakly disturbed state, with short periods of magnetic storms, mainly of a weak level, class G1," Leus explained.
On Tuesday, May 13, a new powerful X-class solar flare occurred on the Sun. It was recorded at 18:38 Moscow time in sunspot group 4079 (N07W81) and lasted 19 minutes. The previous flare of similar strength was observed more than two weeks ago. The Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences clarified that "it does not pose a global danger to the Earth."
