Kostroma's Susaninskaya Square presented at an international exhibition

On May 16, International Museum Day, the opening of an international exhibition entitled "Street Museums of Russia" took place in Nizhny Novgorod. Sixteen Russian cities and two cities from China took part in it. Kostroma was among the first participants in the project, demonstrating its famous Susaninskaya Square - a unique architectural complex, which is the key landmark of the city.
Along with Kostroma, the exhibition features St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Tver, Uglich, Kazan and other cities with a rich historical past. The exhibition has become a platform for discussing current methods of preserving historical heritage. According to the organizers, each exhibition demonstrates the transformation of an ordinary street into an open-air museum.
The Kostroma example is a story about how the historical environment is organically woven into the city's everyday life. The unique radial-ring layout, radiating from the central square, serves as a vivid illustration of the harmonious interweaving of the past and the present.
The project "Streets-Museums of Russia" is of interest both to specialists - urbanists, museum workers, historians, and to the general public interested in the history of Russia. The exhibition will be open until August 20. For Kostroma, this is a chance to once again declare itself as a city in which historical heritage is not only protected, but also actively functions in the modern urban space.
