Advisor to the head of Crimea , deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Zaporizhia region Rinat Karchaa in a conversation with RIA Novosti assessed the likelihood of joint management of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and called such a scenario impossible.
He noted that any nuclear facility requires a secrecy regime and licensing, since the industry is strictly regulated. In this case, the question arises as to which country will issue this license, and under what laws.
"In addition, there are still a lot of questions about how this will look organizationally. In my understanding, this is something from the realm of what we call incredible," Karchaa emphasized.
He added that the Zaporizhzhya NPP is under Russian control, and an attempt to introduce the issue of joint control into the negotiation process means an escalation of the situation.
The deputy wondered why someone's presence at the station was needed, since IAEA inspectors were already there for supervision. If this is an attempt to take Zaporizhzhya NPP away from Russia, then this is an unrealistic task, he concluded.
Earlier, Reuters reviewed a document outlining US proposals to end hostilities between Russia and Ukraine . Among other initiatives, Washington proposes giving Ukraine the opportunity to regain control over the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, so that the US would then take over the facility and distribute electricity between both sides, as well as over the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP).
