The names Sofia and Mikhail have once again entered the top of the most popular names for newborns in Russia. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to data from the online registry of the Civil Registry Office.

Thus, the name Sofia is the most popular for newborn girls in the Russian Federation for the fifth year in a row. At the same time, Mikhail leads the list of names for newborn boys for the third year in a row.

The top 5 names for girls also included Eva, Anna, Maria and Varvara. This year, the name Victoria dropped out of the top five.

In addition to Mikhail, the top five most popular names for boys also included Alexander, Artem, Matvey, and Timofey. In 2025, the name Maxim left the top 5, giving way to Timofey.
