Study: Cost of a Dentist's Appointment in Moscow and the Regions May Differ by 270 Times

During the study, analysts from the Progress group, which has been studying current trends in various fields for over 15 years, used open data from the SberZdorovye and NaPopravku services, as well as the Yandex Maps geoservice. Vademecum has the results.
It turned out that the highest average cost of a dentist appointment is in Moscow - 1,352.97 rubles, followed by St. Petersburg - 1,182.2 rubles and Rostov-on-Don - 1,008.56 rubles. In cities with a smaller population, the average cost of an appointment is much lower. For example, in Sevastopol it is 637.58 rubles, in Saratov - 633.1 rubles, in Tomsk - 586.78 rubles, and in Orenburg - 558.05 rubles. Thus, the gap between Moscow and Orenburg in terms of the average cost of an appointment differs by almost 2.5 times (800 rubles).
In large cities of Russia, the cost of an initial appointment with a dentist is, on average, in the range from 1,000 to 1,500 rubles. In Moscow, the price level is higher - for example, about 23% of doctors receive patients at a price of more than 1.5 thousand rubles, in other cities, 10-15% of specialists work at such a price.
In St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk and Krasnodar, most doctors charge 1,000–2,000 rubles. In Kazan, Ufa, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk and Perm, an appointment with 80–90% of specialists costs less than 1,500 rubles. In a number of cities, an initial appointment costs no more than 500 rubles. In Kazan, 29.13% of dentists charge this price, in Omsk – 26.11%, in Krasnoyarsk – 16.04%.
"Most doctors in the regions focus on prices that are affordable for the population (up to 1,000-1,500 rubles), and the high price segment is typical mainly for Moscow. The range of prices in the regions is much lower than in the capital, where both very cheap and expensive appointments are possible," the analysts noted.
Moscow and St. Petersburg are also leaders in the number of dentists – there are 23.9 thousand (30% of the total) and 10.7 thousand (almost 13.5%) doctors working there, respectively. In Yekaterinburg, which is third in the TOP15 cities by the number of such specialists, the figure is significantly lower – 3,079 doctors (3.86% share).
The rating also includes Krasnodar, where 2.58 thousand doctors work (share 3.24%), Novosibirsk - 2.53 thousand doctors (3.18%), Nizhny Novgorod - 2.5 thousand (3.14%), Ufa - 2.448 thousand (3.07%) and Kazan - 2.358 thousand (2.96%).
The study notes that the largest share of top-category doctors is observed not in the capital, but in the regions - in Volgograd it is 27.3%, in Ulyanovsk - 20.8%, in Kemerovo - 20.53%, in Perm - 20.34%. In Sevastopol, the figure is at the level of 5.38%, and in large cities (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk) the percentage of top-category doctors is approximately at the level of 10-15%.
Category I doctors are most often found in Izhevsk (15.13%), Yaroslavl (11.41%), Khabarovsk (11.78%), Sevastopol (12.9%) and Novokuznetsk (9.94%). In most Russian cities, the majority of doctors do not have a category. Category I and II doctors make up a smaller part of the total number of specialists, and their distribution across cities is uneven.
The largest number of dentists with a "candidate of medical sciences" degree are concentrated in Moscow - 5.26%, Nizhny Novgorod - 4.07%, Volgograd - 4.02%, as well as in Voronezh - 3.43% and Perm - 3.29%. In other cities, the figure does not exceed 3%. Doctors with a "doctor of medical sciences" degree are rare - in Moscow, such specialists make up only 0.51%. In some cities, there are no dentists with such an academic degree at all (Sevastopol, Tolyatti, Tyumen, Orenburg, Ulyanovsk, Khabarovsk).
The study indicates that the longest average work experience of dentists is recorded in Perm (25.9 years), Novokuznetsk (25), Kemerovo (24.6), Izhevsk (24.1). In most cities, the average work experience exceeds 20 years. In Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan, it is lower than in many regional centers - 17.4, 19 and 18.2 years, respectively.
The most experienced dentist, who is a doctor of medical sciences, has 67 years of experience and works in one of the capital's private clinics. The youngest specialist is a doctor with 1 year of experience, he also works in Moscow.
Analysts at the Progress Communications Group found that there is no obvious linear relationship between a doctor's experience and the cost of an appointment. However, top-category doctors generally accept patients at a higher price than first- or second-category dentists.
Dentist vacancies often make it to the top of the highest-paying offers in large Russian cities. In mid-August 2025, analysts from the job search service SuperJob studied 67 thousand vacancies and presented a selection of offers with the highest salaries. Thus, in Moscow, an orthopedic dentist (implantologist, gnathologist) in a specialized private clinic is ready to be paid from 500 thousand rubles per month.
