The driest year in the last 65 years has dried out the canyon in Hatay.

Sarıseki Canyon , located in the Sarıseki neighborhood of İskenderun district and known as one of Turkey's four largest canyons, was once a haven for residents during the hot weather. While captivating visitors with its natural beauty, Sarıseki Canyon has dried up and fallen silent following the region's driest year in 65 years. With rainfall down 66 percent compared to the previous year, the trout farm operating in the Sarıseki Canyon area has closed due to a lack of water. Locals are eagerly awaiting the natural wonder's revival.
Mehmet Atahan, the 62-year-old manager, explained that his trout farm has been closed for two years due to drought . He said, "I've been running a trout restaurant in Sarıseki Canyon for 16 years. However, the water receded completely two years ago, and I had to close my business. This used to be a place where people found peace and spent time surrounded by nature. Now, even the ducks and birds have no water to drink. This situation is heartbreaking for all of us. Everyone who works here has lost their livelihood. We want the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) or relevant institutions to drill an underground water well here. We've heard that water can be found at depths of five or six meters. If we receive support, we can revitalize this canyon. We want Sarıseki Canyon, one of Turkey's four largest canyons, to regain its former vitality."
