Current study: Antidepressants are linked to worsening of dementia

Many dementia patients also take medications such as sertraline for depression. However, this appears to be associated with progressive cognitive decline, researchers now report in “ BMC Medicine .”
Dementia and depression often go hand in hand. Those affected cannot concentrate well, become forgetful, are depressed, have no motivation or joy in activities they once loved, or are anxious and tense. All of these symptoms can occur with both diseases.
