Turner Schmidt eighth in European Championship all-around final, Faverus eleventh

Gymnasts Casimir Schmidt and Elijah Faverus finished in eighth and eleventh place respectively in the all-around final at the European Championships in Leipzig, Germany. The 29-year-old Schmidt scored 80.098 points, debutant Faverus (18) reached 79.265 points. Adem Asil from Turkey was crowned European all-around champion. The Turk achieved a total of 82.398 points.
For Asil it is his second European all-around title. He previously won gold in 2023. Leo Saladino from France (81.430) took silver, Krisztofer Meszaros from Hungary bronze (81.164).
Schmidt achieved his best result ever in Leipzig. He had never achieved a top-8 ranking in the all-around at a European Championship. Schmidt had a stable start to his all-around on vault and continued his competition without major mistakes.
"I'm very proud," Schmidt said afterwards. "This morning Rick Jacobs asked me what my best result ever was. I think it was eleventh. That's why I'm really happy with that top eight," he said. "I went into the competition to improve certain things from the qualification. I succeeded. I was quite nervous on vaulting, but after that I wasn't nervous at all. I was in it, performed calmly and consciously didn't really worry about the rest."
Faverus also did not find any major mistakes in his tour of the six devices. "Eleventh on my debut sounds like music to the ears," said Faverus. "This was a dream debut. Of course there are small points here and there that could have been better, but I am really very satisfied. This tastes like more."
The two gymnasts from Sv PAX Haarlemmermeer finished sixth in the country rankings earlier this week with the Dutch team. They had qualified for the individual all-around finals as 13th and 23rd.
