RS Government suspends debate on support for Portela in Carnival 2026

The government of Rio Grande do Sul has temporarily suspended discussions on how to support the Portela Samba School, which in 2026 will pay tribute to the religiosity, culture and resistance of black people from Rio Grande do Sul in the Sapucaí parade.

Although the topic has been well received, there is still no definition regarding the type or value of institutional support. The priority at the moment, according to the government, is to face the consequences of the heavy rains in the state.

The matter should be brought back to the agenda at a more opportune time. In the meantime, a possible alternative to the use of public resources would be support from private companies interested in associating their brands with the cultural tribute.
