Livre asks AD to reject constitutional review

The Livre spokesperson called on the AD to reject carrying out a constitutional review in this legislature.
“It would be very important for the Prime Minister, when he is nominated, and who will naturally be Luís Montenegro, from AD, to give signals that this legislature is not a legislature for carrying out a constitutional review”, said Rui Tavares, in statements to journalists.
The Livre spokesperson was speaking to the media after having had an audience with the President of the Republic, lasting around an hour, at the Belém Palace, about the formation of the new Government.
In this sense, Rui Tavares urged the AD to reject a possible constitutional review, or “at least say that it will never be in favour of any amendment to the Constitution that, instead of having two thirds, does not have a consensus that encompasses at least three quarters of the Assembly of the Republic, – that is, that also includes, at least, the centre-left”.
The leader of the Liberal Initiative announced this Wednesday that the party will present a constitutional review project to reduce the “central role” of the State in the economy,
“The IL will present a constitutional review project in which we will bring this vision of a [freer, more economically autonomous] society to the table. It is not a settling of accounts with history, but the creation of an opportunity for the future for everyone, in which everyone identifies with a Constitution that brings more freedom and has less ideological bias”, stated Rui Rocha, in statements to journalists after the audience with the President of the Republic, which lasted about an hour.
