Brazilians start playing well in the Club World Cup, but some results are worrying; check out opinions

With the end of the Fluminense game and the end of the first round of group F on Tuesday (17), it can be said that the debuts of the Brazilian representatives in the Club World Cup went very well, and for some 'even better than expected'. Flamengo and Botafogo did their 'homework' according to fans on the internet. Palmeiras and Fluminense played great games against teams considered better, but ended up letting 3 important points slip away.
The first Brazilian team to take to the field in the World Cup that is taking place in the United States was Palmeiras, on Sunday night (15). They tied 0-0 with Porto, from Portugal. New Jersey saw a great game between the teams, which stood out in defense and left something to be desired in offense. It was a good thing for both clubs, since the other two clubs in group A also tied (0-0) in the first round, leaving the group tied, with 1 point for each. According to the tiebreaker criteria, Al Ahly leads, Porto is in second, Palmeiras is in third and Inter Miami is in fourth.

Botafogo took to the field almost at dawn on Monday and achieved a good result against the Seattle Sounders. 2-1 in a good game, but in the end, Fogão almost let the three points slip away, but held on to the positive result until the end with goals from Igor Jesus and Jair, creating a good advantage in group B, the 'group of death' of the World Cup. Cristian Roldán reduced the deficit for the Sounders. The group is led by PSG, current Champions League champions who beat Atlético de Madrid 4-0 in their debut. The team from Paris and Fogão have 3 points, first and second place, respectively. Sounders and Atlético come next.

Flamengo leads Group D by tiebreaker criteria. They beat Espérance 2-0 in Philadelphia on Monday. Arrascaeta and Luiz Araújo secured the victory against the Tunisian team. The Rio de Janeiro team is ahead of Chelsea by tiebreaker criteria of number of yellow cards received, as the English club scored the same score (2-0) against Los Angeles FC. In the second round, we will have a direct confrontation for the leadership with the duel between the two.

Fluminense, like Palmeiras, played very well, but were stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. Facing one of the teams considered the best in this World Cup, Borussia Dortmund was practically dominated by Tricolor das Laranjeiras throughout the game, which missed some crucial chances to open the scoring, but ended up 0x0 in New Jersey. Arias had a great performance and Everaldo had the best chance to score, but wasted it. With the score tied, Mamelodi Sundowns took advantage and leads Group F with the victory over Ulsan HD. Rayners scored in Orlando, securing a 1x0 victory, the lead and the three points. Borussia is in second with 1 point, Fluminense in third with the same point and lastly, Ulsan, with no points after the first round.

OPINIONS OF FANS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
I also thought Palmeiras' game was open, they missed that sequence of goals, but Porto also missed some dangerous ones. Of all the Brazilian games I saw, Fluminense was the most balanced.

Fluminense - Played better than Borussia, which is the strongest team of the 4 Brazilian opponents
Palmeiras - Dominated Porto, but they are a little weaker than Borussia (I understand those who put them in 1st place because they had fewer scares)
Flamengo - Did the homework, and +

The real test will be Flamengo's game against Chelsea. If it's a balanced game, we can say that there isn't much difference between the leagues. With the exception of the standout teams, such as PSG, Barcelona, Real and Liverpool. — Marcelo Lemos (@Lemos7Marcelo) June 17, 2025
