Primoz Roglic takes the lead in the Giro

Briton Josh Tarling (Ineos) today won the second stage of the 108th edition of the Giro d'Italia, an individual time trial held in Tirana, Albania, which allowed Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora) to take the lead. Tarling, 21, completed the 13.7 kilometres of the short stage held in the Albanian capital in 16.07 minutes, beating Roglic, the new pink jersey holder, by one second and Australian Jay Vine (UAE Emirates), second and third placed, by three. Roglic, winner of the Giro in 2023 and considered the biggest favorite to win the current edition, rose to the lead of the race, displacing the Dane Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), who prevailed in the opening stage and dropped to second place in the general classification, one second behind the Slovenian.
Afonso Eulálio, from Bahrein Vitorioso, was 92nd in the stage, 1.23 behind the winner, and occupies 109th position in the individual overall, 9.40 behind the pink jersey.
