Collection of old books has begun at Moscow Ecopoints

All books received will be carefully sorted, checked for defects and disinfected before being given to their new owners.

Moscow residents can now hand in old books to "Ekotochki", the creation of which meets the objectives of the national project "Ecological Well-Being". This was reported by the city's Department of Economic Policy and Development.

"This summer, the network of Moscow eco-points includes over 60 collection points for used books. These containers will become an important part of the city's infrastructure. Thanks to the project partner, all received books will be carefully sorted, checked for defects and disinfected before they reach their new owners. If the publication has lost its marketable appearance, it will also benefit nature - it will be sent for recycling," said Yulia Urozhayeva, head of the Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection of the City of Moscow.

Thanks to the reuse and recycling of books, tens of thousands of trees will be saved from being cut down. The project website has a map of eco-points - you can choose the most convenient one by location. Collection points accept almost any paper publications, including magazines that have lost their relevance and old textbooks. To ensure that the books fit into the container opening and do not get wrinkled, it is recommended to pack them in bags of two or three copies.

The national project "Environmental Well-Being" takes care of the environment and makes it comfortable for people to live in. Work is carried out in several areas at once: creating infrastructure for sorting and recycling waste, eliminating landfills and clearing water bodies, preserving forests, reducing emissions into the atmosphere, developing eco-tourism and preserving biological diversity. The updated national projects are being implemented by decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin since 2025.
