In order to solve the problem of the shortage of personnel in medicine, it is necessary to introduce work after studying at medical universities, believes the head of the Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko . He stated this in the State Duma , and RIA Novosti quotes him.
“In our opinion, today the support measures, the measures to increase the volume of training are insufficient... We need to clearly have measures now to retain graduates, (...) to work on completion of education for medical workers of the medical and mid-level,” the minister said.
It became known on February 5 that graduates of Russian medical universities would be required to work for mandatory service. The Ministry of Health wanted to oblige university students to work in state and private clinics for at least three years after graduating from an educational institution, and college students - two years.
The Ministry of Healthcare later explained that graduates are offered the right to choose a region and place of work for mandatory work if there are vacancies there. If students who graduated on a budgetary basis refuse to work, they will face a fine. The department explained the need to send them by statistics, according to which about 40 percent of students who graduated from medical schools and colleges at the expense of the state budget do not go to work in state or municipal hospitals.
