State Duma deputy Leonid Barbashov, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, assessed the new, 16th package of sanctions by the European Union (EU) against Russia.
"The European Union continues to act on the principle of 'I'll freeze my ears off to spite my mother', acting insignificantly towards Russia," the parliamentarian said.
According to him, sanctions worsen the development of economic relations, but make Russia more independent and become an impetus for import substitution.
Earlier, the heads of the foreign policy departments of the EU countries approved the 16th package of sanctions against Russia. This includes a ban on the import of primary aluminum, the sale of gaming consoles, and the inclusion of 73 vessels of the so-called shadow fleet in the list.
