Family doctors at a conference in Rome. "Challenges require new models"

From the shortage alarm to the Community Houses issue. From 23 to 25 May the 8th Regional Congress of Fimmg Lazio and the 17th of the Training School. "Enough sterile battles, more dialogue to address real problems"
"What role and what skills for the general practitioner". This is the guiding principle for the 8th Regional Congress of Fimmg Lazio and the 17th of the Training School, scheduled from 23 to 25 May at the TH Roma Carpegna Palace Hotel in the Capital, in via Aurelia 481. A 3-day event of debates and training to address the critical issues and emergencies of territorial healthcare.
At the center of the work are the emergency waiting lists, the lack of general practitioners in the Municipalities of Rome and in the provinces of Lazio, the unique role in family medicine and the models of territorial organization and assistance. "For the first time since the passing of the law that established the general practitioner - the promoters underline - large sections of the population are without a trusted doctor due to the lack of doctors and everything is also complicated by the lack of dialogue with the Lazio Region, aggravated even more by the failure to sign the regional supplementary contract, the main way to start solving the problems that are turning into real emergencies, such as the start of the network of Community Houses which instead is still to come. Unfortunately for months, an ideological and sterile battle has been preferred on the transformation of the employment relationship of general practitioners from professionals in agreement to employees, not thinking that a dialogue and an agreement with the current legislative means available would solve many problems".
The aging of the population with the consequent increase in chronic diseases will be discussed, what the role of the family doctor will be in ensuring equal access to care with a primary mission in the prevention and management of chronic diseases in a public health context, and the availability of resource allocation with respect to this new reality. The terms of a collaboration - and comparison - between public and private health care will also be analyzed, identifying the skills needed in the new context, the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, also using new technologies such as telemedicine and remote diagnostics. It will be a "time for comparison and updating between doctors and operators in the health sector, to define a new model of general medicine capable of responding to current and future challenges".
