Appeal softens sentence for suspended Major General Galimullin

Anvar Galimullin was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison on probation for official forgery and especially large-scale embezzlement.

The Second Western District Military Court has reviewed the sentence against Major General of the Russian Ministry of Defense Anvar Galimullin, who was previously sentenced to 2.5 years of suspended imprisonment for official forgery and large-scale embezzlement.
Following the appeal, the additional penalty of a fine of 500 thousand rubles was excluded from the sentence.
The court's decision states: "To change the sentence, to exclude the additional punishment in the form of a fine of 500 thousand rubles. To leave the rest of the sentence unchanged, and to dismiss the appeals."
In addition, reserve colonel Yuri Ubogiy was convicted in the case and received a suspended sentence of 1.5 years with a probationary period of three years. The fine stipulated by the sentence was also excluded by appeal.
Following the examination of the criminal case, both convicts are prohibited from holding leadership positions for two years. At the time of the announcement of the verdict, Galimullin and Ubogiy were under a written undertaking not to leave the country. The verdict has entered into legal force.
