At the initiative of United Russia, a two-day rapid chess tournament was held in the Zaporizhia region. The event was held with the support of the chess federation and was dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day and in memory of the multiple champion of the Zaporizhia region, Yuriy Rupchev.

The coordinator of the federal party project "Children's Sports", deputy of the Melitopol City Council from the United Russia party Anton Lukoyanov reported that chess players from different regions of both the Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions came to participate in the tournament.

Lukoyanov emphasized that work is underway to organize a chess tournament in which athletes from all four new regions will take part. He also invited chess players from all over Russia to participate in the tournament.

As previously reported, the study of checkers and chess is planned to be included in the school curriculum of new regions.
