On Friday, May 9, residents of Rokitniańska Street and the Kopernika Housing Estate Management Board contacted us with an appeal for immediate help. - The thoughtless actions of PGM employees resulted in birds and their young being trapped behind the netting hung at the top of the building. Their flight path was cut off, and without a chance to obtain food, they will not survive - they reported the situation. PGM beats its breast and explains the reasons for the interference in the building.
Only a decisive and conscious reaction from the residents resulted in the birds trapped behind the net being able to leave their nests again. A few days ago, their evacuation was prevented by the nets being attached to the top of the tenement house at Rokitniańska 9. First, our editorial office was called by one of the concerned residents, and a moment later we received an identical call from a representative of the Kopernika Housing Estate Management.
[middle1]"This is pure madness. How could they trap birds with young? Didn't someone know what they were doing?" the woman living in the building where the incident took place asked question after question.
It turns out that birds (mainly pigeons, but also a few jackdaws) have nested there, locating their nests in holes in the flat roof. This is not unheard of. Such is the specificity of bird nesting in buildings that are part of the landscape of urban space. They usually nest in places invisible to the human eye, and enter the nests through cracks, small holes. Many an ornithological expert has to conduct inspections very meticulously, so as not to issue an unreliable opinion, which would allow for the unhindered renovation of the building during the breeding season...
